Overview

From an old Mining, Logging, and Ranching community, Centennial is a great place to recreate! Numerous trailheads lead to MTB and hiking trails for every ability level, and the town boasts several great food and drink establishments. Check out the Bear Tree, The Old Corral, The Mountain View, The Friendly Store, and the Trading Post for both before and after ride fuel. Live Music is also a staple on summer weekends. Lodging includes several of the eateries mentioned above as well as several nice campgrounds in the Medicine Bow National Forest, just up the hill from town.

Local Info

When the seasons allow, it is hard to beat the high alpine environment of the Snowy Range. Medicine Bow Peak, at just over 12,000 feet provides views of Rocky Mountain NP, North Park CO, the Zirkel Range, Elk Mountain WY, and beyond. Sugarloaf Recreation Area is a great place to start, where there are several trails leading to glacial lakes, krummholz, and wild flowers. There is also excellent fishing in most of the lakes and streams.

There are lower elevation options at the MTB typical trailheads as well but be on the look out for fast riders.

Visiting Tips

Winter is long and summer is short - Centennial sits at just over 8,000 feet and the top of the North Fork Trail is over 10,000. Best riding starts in May/June in the lower areas, and the NFT isn't ready until July. Late summer and early fall are still nice. The snow biking is coming on too - with Green Rock PG down the Barber Lake road and sometimes trail being a blast. Other trails are occasionally groomed by the USFS and sometimes locals.

Bring water for camping - the USFS currently has not activated any of the pumps in the campgrounds (which stinks...feel free to complain to the Laramie Ranger District Office).

Camping & Lodging

Mt View Hotel, The Friendly Store Motel, The Old Corral Motel, Pine CG, Willow CG, Sugarloaf CG, some nice dispersed camping too. Call ahead for hotel reservations. Call the USFS Laramie RD office for CG info.

Food & Drink

Mt View for coffee and breakfast, The Friendly Store for breakfast, The Coffee Corral for coffee. The Bear Tree for beer and pizza, The Old Corral for steaks, The Trading Post for dinner. Many choices for such a small town.
