Description

This trail starts at the end of a narrow county road. The actual trailhead is a short ways away from the parking area. Parking is very limited, so be very smart about parking just so you don't get "parked in" or do the same to someone else. From the parking area continue up the gravel road being careful to keep your dogs with you so they don't bother the people who live on this short road.

At the end of this gravel road, you'll come to glorious singletrack that takes you high into to the mountains. The trail is steep and rocky in some spots and the stream crossings can be a challenge the higher you go if you are afraid to get your feet wet. But the payoff is a fun water slide/falls that is very refreshing on a warm Summer day.

Continue to follow the creek, climbing ever higher to Aspen Ranch, a trailhead junction and parking area. From here, you'll have to follow the dirt road a bit to get back on the singletrack but keep going all the way up to the Ski Santa Fe parking lot for a tough uphill romp in the woods.

We took the trail from the ski basin down. You can't follow Rio en Medio all the way to the lower parking lot because of Tesuque Pueblo land.
