Description

You'll be brushing your shoulders on rhododendrons on the narrow path. Half way up, there is a nice campsite with room for about four 2-person tents.

Two-thirds of the way up, walk 15 meters east to stand on boulders for a spectacular sunrise, or in the daytime you can see the tall buildings of downtown Asheville. From this vantage point, the tallest peak in N.C., Mt Mitchell, is one of those past Asheville and a little to the right.

Narrow path through rhododendrons leads to the "Shining Rock" huge white boulders. But the best view is the east-facing rocks, 2/3 of the way up.
