This trail enters the Indian Heaven Wilderness and the usual federal wilderness area regulations and restrictions apply here: practice Leave No Trace (LNT) backcountry skills and ethics, camp 100 feet from fragile areas, bury human waste at least 200 feet from water, trails, and campsites. This trail is usually closed by snow between November and May. Expect lots of mosquitos in June, July, and August.

Description

This popular trail begins at Cultus Creek Campground and climbs 1,200 feet on steep semi-open slopes to a saddle north of Bird Mountain. Going west of the saddle, the trail descends through large timber to end at a junction with the Pacific Crest Trail and the Wood Lake Trail #185.

There are abundant huckleberries along the trail in season and views of the west slope of Mt. Adams, as well as Mt. Rainier, the Goat Rocks, Sawtooth Mountain, and Sleeping Beauty. This trail can be part of a seven mile loop, involving the PCT and the Indian Heaven Trail #33, that passes four attractive lakes in the Indian Heaven Wilderness.
